Mark Delamere Strong Benefit- Saturday November 16th

Dear Parkway Youth Hockey Families,

Mark Delamere is a 15 year old freshman at Boston Latin Academy and lives in West Roxbury with his parents, Mark and Sheila.  Mark has been an avid basketball, baseball, hockey, and lacrosse player, playing all over the Parkway Area since he was a young boy.

On September 6, 2013, while receiving a ride home from his school, Boston Latin Academy, Mark was involved in a horrific car accident that has left him paralyzed from the waist down.  Mark has been transferred to The Shepherd Center in Atlanta which specializes in treating individuals with spinal cord injuries.  Mark faces significant challenges ahead of him to deal with his injuries and is determined to work as hard as he can and to never give up hope that he will walk again.

Mark’s family faces a daunting financial need associated with his care and recovery at a time when they are most focused on his health and rehabilitation.  We are happy to announce that the Delamere/Mulry families and friends have planned an event to honor Mark to celebrate the community that has been so supportive and to raise funds to assist him and his parents during this extraordinarily difficult time.

The event to benefit the Mark Delamere Fund is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2013 7:00 PM at Demetris on Route 1, Foxboro.  The event will be a wonderful night and will include food, music, silent auctions, raffles, and so much more! Come on, Parkway Families, let's see you all out at Foxboro to support this family!!

Tickets to the event are available online at www.delamere.ticketbud.com/mark-delamere-strong-benefitHard copy tickets are available at Kelleher's Bar & Grille on Centre Street in Roslindale.

If you would like to become a sponsor for the event or donate an auction item, please contact Stephen Delamere at stephen_delamere@hotmail.com (781-363-3072) or Michelle Delamere at michelledel02@msn.com.

You can also make a donation directly to the Mark Delamere Fund online at www.gofundme.com/MarkDelamereSTRONG

The family thanks you for your support!

Program Update & 2014-15 Travel Team TryOuts

$

The Parkway Youth Hockey Board wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support of the Corrib Raffle that was recently concluded.  Annually, the Corrib is a major donor to PYH and many other local youth organizations so your efforts are appreciated.

Over the next several weeks, the schedule will be developed and posted for travel team try outs for the 2014-2105 season.  Please check the web site starting in mid-February for registration details.

In anticipation of the end of this season and the upcoming tryouts, it is crucial that families reconcile any outstanding program balances that are presently due.  The Board would like to thank those who have been able to complete their payments thus far.  As you are aware, program fees are PYH’s largest source of revenue. At the same time, we have several ongoing monthly expenses.

- For those with children playing on teams in the Valley Hockey League (VHL), this has been our first season.  Unlike the prior years with the Greater Boston Youth Hockey League, the VHL has required payments of regular season game fees at earlier points in the season.  With the transition to the VHL this season and the increase in costs, the Board did not change the payment points for travel team fees to our members.

- Additionally, PYH has ongoing monthly ice costs for the Roche Rink and for Skills sessions with O'Sullivan Hockey.  Also, PYH assumes the team registration fees for those participating in Mass Hockey state tournaments.

For these reasons, having families fulfill their tuition payments in a timely manner eases our cash flow needs and gives us more flexibility around planning should we want to pursue additional expenditures (such as new jerseys or updated equipment) that can benefit our members.

As a result, the Board has determined that families with outstanding balances after try outs are completed this spring will not be placed on a travel team roster for the 2014-2015 season.  Each season at this time, the Board tries to strike a balance between families’ available resources and the requirements of operating PYH on an equitable basis.  We remind you that, as always, limited financial assistance is available through the Board should it be needed.

We want to thank you, the players, all the coaches and volunteers for your efforts thus far and look forward to continued success for PYH

Final tuition payments for the 2013-2014 season (and any prior balances) are due in full and need to be paid before tryouts.  Please note that players with outstanding balances after try outs are completed will not be placed on a travel team roster for the 2014-2015 season.

Midget Team Options: 1/2 Season vs. Full Season

Parkway Youth Hockey would like to offer a brief explanation concerning the PYH Midget teams.  There are two categories of Midget teams:

-- ½ Season teams that play in the Valley Hockey League
-- Full Season team that plays in the Quincy President's League

The ½ Season VHL Midget Travel teams usually consists of two teams with rosters of up to 18 players.  The travel teams generally play a ½ season from late August/early September to the end of November.  At the conclusion of the VHL season in November, the ½ Season Midget season is over and many of these players will then move on to play for their respective high school teams.  Games are played at rinks throughout the VHL.  Tryouts are required for these teams.

The Full Season Quincy Midget team generally consists of players that wish to play for a full season (September thru March) and will not be skating for their high school teams.  All games are played on Sunday mornings in Quincy.  There are no try outs for this team and space is limited to 20 players.

Dear Parkway Youth Hockey League Members -

As required by PYHL's by-laws, nominations for eight (8) positions on the Board of Directors will be accepted from members of Parkway Youth Hockey at the March 11, 2014 Board meeting scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Community Room of the District E Police Station (adjacent to the Holy Name rotary).  The Board election shall take place at PYHL's annual meeting April 8, 2014

The 15 members of the Board of Directors are elected by the voting members of PYHL and serve terms of two years, beginning on May 1 of the year in which such Director is elected.  This year eight (8) members of the Board shall be elected.  The Directors manage the operation of PYHL programs and is a volunteer position.

At the time of the election a voting member is entitled to cast a vote in favor of as many nominees as there are vacant Board seats. Those nominees receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to the Board. In the event of a tie in the vote of the membership for election of the final member of the Board of Directors in any given year, the existing members of the Board of Directors will vote between or among the persons whose election resulted in the tied vote, and by such vote the Board of Directors will break the tie and elect the final member of the Board.

If the number of nominees is less than the number of seats to be filled by election, no election by the members will need to be held and all nominees shall be deemed elected. Vacancies on the Board of Directors, due to resignation, removal, lack of a sufficient number of nominees or otherwise, shall be filled by election by a majority of the Board of Directors.

Thank you for your continued participation.

PYHL Board of Directors
